This paper presents two models useful for the fast determi-nation of the Lagrange multiplier in a JPEG encoder using the RDOQ technique. Using a large set of test images, the acceleration of the encoding process was measured for various encoder operating conditions, as well as the impact of the model used on compression efficiency. An accelera-tion of up to twofold was achieved, with a negligible impact on compression efficiency.
