In the area of video communication, recent standardization activities of ITU-T resulted in the
project known as H.26L that is aimed at preparation of a “long-term” recommendation for video
codecs. The paper reports results of the H.26L codec tests. The goal was to estimate coding
performance and computational power consumption for various configurations of coding tools
applied. Moreover a proposal for spatio-temporal scalability is briefly described and evaluated.
