Sławomir Maćkowiak (born 1972) received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Poznan University of Technology in 1997 and 2002 respectively. Currently he is an Assistant Professor at Poznan University of Technology, a member of the Chair of the Multimedia Telecommunication and Microelectronics.
Member of of Polish Society Theoretical and Applied Electrical Engineering (PTETiS).
He is also a member of the Normalization Commission for Multimedia (NKP288) by the Polish Normalization Committee (PKN). Activities in Polish standardization (e.g. translation of MPEG-2/H.262 and MPEG-4 part 10 (AVC/H.264) standards), Member and secretary of "Sekcji Sygnałów, Układów i Systemów Elektronicznych Komitetu Elektroniki i Telekomunikacji Polskiej Akademii Nauk"

He received several awards and grants, among other:
- an Award of the Minister of the National Education for the best Ph.D. thesis of the year 2002 (2003),
- a Group Award of the Minister of the National Education for research in the National Education for research in image compression (1999),
- an extraordinary award from the Rector of Poznan University of Technology for preparing the didactic laboratory and a set of exercises for students (2004),
- an Award of the Association for Image Processing for the best Ph.D. thesis of the year 2002 (2003),
- an Award of Foundation for Supporting Radiocommunication and Multimedia Techniques Development for the best Ph.D. thesis of the year 2002 (2003),
- the Second Prize of the Foundation for Supporting the Development of Radiocommunication and Multimedia Techniques in competition for "The best paper of young scientist" on the Systems and Technologies for Multimedia Telecommunication Conference (STM) 2000.
He is an author and co-author of several papers on video scalability, MPEG-2 compression and teleteaching. He has been taking part in several investigation projects, e.g.

He is interested in scalability and image compression, biometrics, video surveillance.
His personal interests include collecting of miniature models of Audi roadcars, Audi Concept cars and Auto Union Pre-war cars in scale 1:43.
