Taxi fare from the airport is approx. 30-35,- PLN (about 8,- EURO).
Only two taxi companies - 9622 and 8219219 are eligible to wait for passengers at the airport. Taxis should have this number displayed clearly on the roof and side doors. If you wish to use another company, you should call.

Politechnika Poznanska, ul. Polanka 3 (if you go directly to the university offices)

From the main railway station (Poznań Główny) to PUT

Transfer by taxi

Taxi fare from the main railway station is approx. 20 PLN (about 5 EURO) (Monday to Saturday daytime). Such prices are offered by big taxi companies identified by short phone numbers like 9622, 9191 etc. Private taxis that you can pick up from in front of the station can be much more expensive.

Please give the taxi driver destination address: Politechnika Poznanska (DS1) Jana Pawla II (if you go to DS1) or Politechnika Poznanska, ul. Polanka 3 (if you go directly to the university offices).

Transfer by tram

As you leave the main railway station hall, you can see a bridge in front of you, called Most Dworcowy (Railway Bridge). As you climb up the bridge (you can use the stairs or the lift) and turn left, you reach the Roosevelta Street, and go across it to a tram stop located in front of the main entrance to the Poznan International Fair. From there you can take tram no. 6 (direction Milostowo), no. 5 (direction Stomil) or no. 11 (direction Os. Lecha) and get off at stop "Kornicka" (7 stops by tram #6 and #11, 8 stops by tram #5). Please be aware of the fact, that if you take tram #6 or #11, there are two stops named "Kornicka" - please get off at the second one. As you get off at "Kórnicka" stop, you will see an exhibition room and service building of Opel (car make) at the corner of Kaliska street. Go along this street, passing the Opel station. At the end of the street you will see the building of Poznan University of Technology in front of you. It is a blue and white building with big glass windows. You need to turn right to reach the entrance.
Usually, you reach "Kornicka" stop within 15-20 minutes from the Main Railway Station, so you should validate a 30' ticket. Please note that a traffic jam is not a justification for exceeding the validity period of your ticket.

General transportation information

Taxi

Please note that different taxi companies have different fares in Poznan. The prices are displayed on the window of the rear right door. The first number means the price for the first kilometre (usually 5 PLN). The second number is the price of the each consecutive kilometre (usually 1.60 (9625) to 2.00 PLN (9191)). This price is valid from Monday to Saturday between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. (fare type 1). Otherwise, the price is higher by 50% (fare type 2). The fare type is displayed on the taxi-meter together with the amount to be paid. Several taxi companies operate in the city. They are identified by their phone numbers which are displayed on the roof of each car, just next to the world TAXI. Good choices would be: 9622, 9191, 9625.

City trams and buses

Trams (lines 1 to 18) as well as standard city buses (lines 51 to 99) are served by the main operator MPK and are signed by its logo MPK. In principle, you find timetables at each tram and bus stop.
Trams operate from early morning until about 10:30 or 11:00 PM. From Monday to Friday, between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, they operate mostly in 12-minutes intervals. After about 7:00 PM 20-minutes intervals apply. Early in the morning, as well as on Saturdays before 4:00 PM 15-minutes intervals apply. On Sundays and Saturday afternoons and evenings you have 20-minutes intervals again. The basic city bus lines operate with 15-minutes intervals Monday to Saturday until about 7:00 PM. On evenings and Sundays 20-minutes intervals apply. Nevertheless, many city bus lines have schedules with longer intervals. You have to purchase your ticket BEFORE you enter the vehicle. You can buy tickets in many kiosks (most newspaper and tobacco sellers) as well as some shops. If you plan to use tram or bus in late evening or weekend, please buy your ticket in advance.
You have to validate your ticket in a validate printing machine (a plastic red, white or yellow box) IMMEDIATELY after entering the vehicle.

There is a time ticket system in Poznan, which means that you buy tickets for the defined time of journey, and not for a particular distance. This allows you to change with the same ticket, and without using another one for the next bus or tram, unless you are beyond the time limit of the ticket. The starting time of the journey is printed on the ticket by the ticket-puncher. There are tickets available for 10, 30, 60 and 90 minutes. The 10-minutes ticket costs 1.30 zloty (PLN), 30-minutes ticket costs 2.60 PLN. Traffic jams do NOT extend validity period of a ticket. If you plan a long journey throughout the city, and you do not wish to waste your time thinking about the tickets all over again, you are recommended to buy a 24-hours ticket for 11,40 PLN (valid for 24 hours) (fares as for October 2007).

NOTE that there are some fast and suburban (A, L, P, 101, 107) buses that have their separate fares.

One more advice about the time tickets: as you punch e.g. two 10-minute tickets simultaneously, it is equivalent to punching one half-hour ticket. But as you punch one 10-minutes ticket, and only after those 10 minutes - another 10-minute ticket, the other one will be valid for the next 10 minutes. Therefore, it is recommended to check out time schedules at tram- and bus-stops.

Day's timetable is valid until 11 P.M. in Poznan public transport. From that moment only night buses go throughout the city, and all of them cross the Kaponiera Circus, so that you can change without any problems. Night buses depart from Kaponiera in the intervals of ca half an hour. There are no special night tickets in Poznan, the fares are the same for the whole 24 hours. Only express buses (lines A, L and P) have special fares, equal to double normal fares.
